Busta Rhymes, D’Angelo, The Roots and More Took the Stage at ‘A Celebration of Phife’

Tonight’s ‘Celebration of Phife’ is being held to honor Phife Dawg a.k.a. Malik Taylor of A Tribe Called Quest at the Apollo Theater. Phife’s family, friends and colleagues took the stage for remembrances, reading and performances.

An emotional Busta Rhymes said, “I’m forever in debt to Tribe” and talked about his appearance on the A Tribe Called Quest song ‘Scenario.’ Busta said the song’s success helped him feed his family. “I wanna thank Phife for being the big brother that I needed,” he concluded.

Other speakers included Chuck D and Michael Rapaport (director of Tribe documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest). The Roots, D’Angelo, and other musical guests took the stage for musical performances.
