Today on the Culture Creature podcast: an interview with drummer Dale Crover of Crystal Fairy and Melvins (listen to the Dale Crover interview above or via iTunes or Stitcher). Crystal Fairy features Crover and his Melvins bandmate Buzz Osbourne, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of At the Drive-In, and Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes. The band’s self-titled debut arrives February 24th via Ipecac Recordings.

In our interview, Dale Crover discusses the mechanics of Crystal Fairy’s collaboration, and says of the record, “The whole thing came out better than I could have ever imagined. I think it’s probably one of my favorite things I’ve ever done.” He also discusses his teenage friendship with Kurt Cobain (Crover performs on the Nirvana albums Bleach and Incesticide). Crover recalls thinking of Kurt, “That’s a real dude, he’s a real dude. I can trust him. I can trust telling him anything. I have a few friends like that. Very few. There’s always someone like that that you know in your life. He was one of those guys.”
