When the Misfits announced earlier this year that original vocalist Glenn Danzig would reunite with his former bandmates Jerry Only and Doyle, one question remained: who would the horror punk icons recruit as their drummer? As the band nears its September reunion shows at Riot Fest Chicago and Denver, they have chosen a legend: heavy metal percussion icon Dave Lombardo, best known for his groundbreaking work with thrash greats Slayer.

Lombardo told Rolling Stone, “It was an easy decision for me to join the Misfits for these monumental shows. I was honored to be asked, and am very excited to be playing with the band.”

Jerry Only cited the Misfits influence on Lombardo’s generation of metal, saying, “I think the darker side of punk we created with the Misfits spawned the growth and evolution of punk into thrash, and sired bands like Metallica and Slayer, just as we inspired countless others in the punk revolution.”

Lombardo recorded nine albums with Slayer, and has also performed with Fantômas, Testament, and Suicidal Tendencies.
