Day Wave announces ‘The Days We Had’ LP, shares ‘Something Here’ (Listen)

Day Wave is the dream pop project of Bay Area musician Jackson Phillips; you may remember the 2016 Day Wave interview at Culture Creature. After a string of EPs and singles, Day Wave has announced its debut LP, The Days We Had, due May 5. Listen to the album-opener and lead single, ‘Something Here,’ below.

The song premiered today on Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1. ‘Something Here’ retains Day Wave’s signature bittersweet, ethereal style, but adds a professional studio sheen that contrasts the lo-fi bedroom sound of Phillips’ earlier recordings. During his interview with Zane Lowe, Phillips said that this was all part of his plan for the evolution of Day Wave. Phillips remarked: “That was also part of the reason why I wanted the EPs to sound a certain way – a little more lo-fi, so that I could leave myself some room so that on the album, it could be something different, because I didn’t want it to all sound the same.”
