The world could use a dose of brightness and soul right now. Thankfully, hip hop heavyweights De La Soul have dropped their new album, and the Anonymous Nobody. The Kickstarter-funded album comes after roughly a year of delays, and features collaborations with 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, Damon Albarn, Justin Hawkins (of The Darkness), and more. The album is available via loads of services and formats, and is streaming via Spotify below.

According to Engadget, De La have avoided sample-clearing issues this time around by sampling jam sessions with live musicians. Issues with sampling rights have dogged the group throughout their career, dating back to its debut, which included the track ‘Transmitting Live from Mars.’ 60’s pop group The Turtles sued De La Soul for sampling their song ‘You Showed Me’ on the track. It is one of the earliest cases of hip hop sampling law (learn more about De La Soul and the origins of hip hop in this awesome documentary series).
