Julien Baker’s astoundingly tender voice brings a stirring emotional honesty to her indie folk songs. Her 2015 album Sprained Ankle won glowing reviews, and today you can stream Baker’s new song ‘Decorated Lawns,’ which is part of a charity compilation called Jingle Yay! by the organization Punk Talks (who offer free mental health services to musicians and industry workers). Stream ‘Decorated Lawns’ here (or buy Jingle Yay! here):

Julien Baker is a Memphis native who previously performed in the emo band Forrister. In May, Baker told Pitchfork about being “queer, Southern, Christian, and proud.” I first heard about Julien Baker when I interviewed the vocalist Anthony Green (Circa Survive, Saosin) in September. During that interview, Anthony raved, “Right now, I’ve been listening to Julien Baker’s record Sprained Ankle over and over. Her voice has something in it that’s telling the truth.”
