Fugazi’s rhythm section, Brendan Canty and Joe Lally, have teamed up with jazz and experimental guitarist Anthony Pirog to form a new instrumental band called The Messthetics. The band’s self-titled debut album will be released on Ian MacKaye’s Dischord Records on March 23.

The Messthetics have shared their new song ‘Serpent Tongue,’ listen below.

According to Dischord, “The trio’s debut includes nine songs recorded at Canty’s practice space throughout 2017, live and mostly without overdubs. It’s a snapshot of a band dedicated to the live ideal, where structure begets improvisation.”

Fugazi have been on hiatus since 2002; MacKaye discussed the band’s past and future in his 2016 interview with Culture Creature.
