No Joy’s ‘Califone’ video is a dadaist collage of hell and pop culture

Tom Cruise in a guillotine, a flying saucer, a phone call from Hell: these are all images that appear in the dadaist collage of No Joy’s ‘Califone’ video (watch below). No Joy’s Jasamine White-Gluz appears throughout, reflected on a dentist’s mirror or floating green-screened over a suburban landscape. No Joy weave a catchy melody through the song, which blends elements of shoegaze, post-punk and dream-pop. It’s a fitting juxtaposition for the culture-skewering video directed by Ben Clarkson.

No Joy are a duo consisting of White-Gluz and Laura Lloyd. ‘Califone’ is the lead track from the band’s forthcoming CREEP EP, due February 24. CREEP will be the first release on the new LA-based label Grey Market. See No Joy’s winter tour dates below.
