Pinegrove are an indie-folk band from Montclair, New Jersey who garnered tons of acclaim for their outstanding 2016 LP Cardinal. The band has recently been making their Bandcamp catalogue available for ‘pay what you want’ donations, as well as raising money via t-shirt sales and a donations jar at their shows. Pinegrove has used these funds to benefit organizations including Planned Parenthood, Standing Rock protesters, and Southern Poverty Law Center. According to a Facebook post from the band (see below), these benefit efforts have been quite successful – including a total donation of over $21k to Planned Parenthood. That particular effort was the result of Pinegrove’s donation of $7,284, plus an anonymous donor who tripled it.

The band is currently donating proceeds from sales of a live album called Elsewhere to Southern Poverty Law Center.

In an interview with Mic, Pinegrove’s Zack Levine said, “We are saying, hey, listen, we’re in this. We are paying attention. We are shifting our priorities to center around this, and we understand that it is our responsibility to do so. This is not going to be a flash in the pan, a New Year’s resolution abandoned in February — we fully plan on staying engaged and active about this for the rest of our lives.”

Pinegrove’s benefit efforts are an incredible example of how artists can help make a difference. See Pinegrove’s post here:
