Pixies Announce New Album ‘Head Carrier,’ Stream First Single (Listen)

'Head Carrier' is the band's first post-reunion release that was written and conceived as an album

Alternative rock trailblazers Pixies have announced a new album, Head Carrier (due September 30th); the album’s first single ‘Um Chagga Lagga’ is available to stream below. This marks the second album of the band’s post-reunion era, following 2014’s Indie Cindy. Bassist and vocalist Paz Lenchantin (formerly of A Perfect Circle and Zwan) is currently filling Kim Deal’s role as the ethereal, feminine counterpart to the mighty yowl of Black Francis.

Indie Cindy was actually a combination of three previous EP releases. Those EPs were not received well; Pitchfork called the band’s output during this era “an increasingly mournful asterisk affixed to a beloved legacy.”

The Guardian reports that Head Carrier, unlike Indie Cindy, was conceived as a complete album. The band wrote and arranged songs during six weeks in of pre-production before choosing a final selection of 12 tracks. Listen to ‘Um Chagga Lagga’ here:
