Post-hardcore outfit Planes Mistaken For Stars are back. The band, which released three albums of raw-throated, cathartic rock before a 2007 breakup, have returned with a new album and shared the song ‘Fucking Tenderness’ (listen below). Prey is due October 21st via Deathwish Inc.

Prey‘s backstory sounds rather harrowing. According to the band’s press release, singer and guitarist Gared O’Donnell drove across America while writing the album. What he found was isolation, inspiration, and something darker. In an interview with the A.V. Club, O’Donnell says he “wound up in a fucking Motel 6 trying to start fistfights with truck drivers.” That sense of darkness is front and center on the ragged, yearning ‘Fucking Tenderness.’
