Spotlights Announce ‘Spiders’ EP, Share Crushingly Heavy Mew Cover

Brooklyn’s Spotlights are returning with a  new 3-song EP, Spiders, due December 9th. We profiled Spotlights with an interview in the Spring. The band joined Deftones and Refused on tour shortly thereafter.

The Spiders EP includes a devastatingly heavy cover of ‘She Spider’ by Danish dreamo band Mew (‘dreamo’ is a word I just made up meaning ‘dreamy emo’). The Spotlights cover version drenches ‘She Spider’ in shoegaze fog before impending thunder finally breaks through the clouds. The effect is wholly suspenseful and dramatic. Listen here:

The Spiders EP also includes a “reworking of an older Spotlights song” called ‘A Box of Talking Heads’ and a remix of ‘Joseph’ (from Tidals) by former Isis drummer Aaron Harris.
